When to Take Senior Pictures in Detroit

You’re coming upon your senior year in high school! First, let me say Congrats! Graduating high school is a huge milestone and deserves to be celebrated. Quality senior portraits is a great way to remember this time in your life!

But, you might be wondering, “when should I take my senior pictures?” I’ve been a senior photographer in Detroit for over 10 years and I have a two reasons why I think the Summer and Fall entering your senior year is the best time to take your senior photos in Detroit.

Summer and Fall is the best weather for senior photos in Detroit

Summer and fall are both beautiful seasons in Detroit, and they offer many opportunities for stunning senior pictures. The warm weather means that seniors can wear a wide variety of clothing styles, from sundresses to jeans. The relaxed atmosphere of summer and fall also allows seniors to feel more comfortable in front of the camera. As a result, they are often able to capture natural-looking smiles and expressions. In addition, the gorgeous scenery of Detroit during these seasons provides a lovely backdrop for senior pictures. From parks, to city vibes and the gorgeous Detroit riverfront, there are endless possibilities for beautiful locations. So whether you prefer the warmth of summer or the cooler temps and beauty of fall, these seasons are both ideal times to capture your Senior year with stunning photos.

If you’re looking for indoor senior photos Winter senior sessions are available. We may even go outdoors for a very small amount of time if winter is your favorite season and you want some cool winter scenery. We try to stay away from frozen fingers and smiles.

Spring is a tricky season, especially in the Michigan. We never really know when Spring will actually show up. This year, we were hoping for April, but Spring didn’t show up until May. But when it comes, it certainly is beautiful. So if you’re looking to have an outdoor spring session, I’d be mindful of making time in your schedule for a May senior session. FYI: These dates go fast, so scheduling in March or early April is a great idea.

Beat the busyness at the end of senior year!

Senior year is very busy. The end of the year especially with prom, finals, and graduation. Depending on your activities, the summer and fall entering your senior year may be the best time to schedule your session. I’d definitely take into account your schedule when deciding what season would be best for you. Your senior pictures should not be an afterthought. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to capture this special time in your life, so you’ll want to make sure you have a well-thought-out experience and its not rushed.
